About Starhairs | Our Xuchang Factory Since 2004
We started as a hair factory, not a website
Starhairs began in 2004 as a hair workshop in Xuchang, Henan — the capital of China's human hair industry. We made wigs for brands that put their own names on the box and charged three times what we charged.
Twenty years later we still do the same work in the same building: we select the raw hair, hand-tie every lace, and pack your order on the same floor where it was made. What changed is that we stopped selling to other brands and started selling to you.
That difference shows up in the price, in the hairline, and in the fact that you can email a person who actually worked on your wig.
What "factory direct" actually means here
Most websites that say "factory direct" are still a middleman. The tell is easy to spot: a generic About page, no address, a Gmail contact, and a "warehouse in the US" that turns out to be a third-party fulfillment house. We're not going to insult you with a paragraph about our mission. Here is the verifiable version:
| Claim | How to check it |
|---|---|
| Our own workshop | Shopify store registered to a Henan address. Ask us and we'll send you a video of the floor. |
| Made since 2004 | Same company, same city, 20+ years. We don't have a "founded in 2019" story. |
| Hand-tied hairline | Every 13x4 and 13x1 lace front is hand-plucked and the knots are bleached by hand in our workshop. |
| No trading company | We are the manufacturer. If you want to know where our raw hair comes from, we'll tell you honestly — it's not all domestic Chinese hair, and we'll explain what "unprocessed" really means. |
How we actually make a wig
- Raw hair selection. We sort by cuticle alignment, not just by length. Hair with the cuticle intact holds dye and heat better, and it's why our colored wigs keep their tone through a year of washes.
- Color processing. Only for colored units. The cuticle is removed or sealed so the dye bonds to the inner layer of the hair.
- Ventilating the cap. Wefting for the wefted areas, hand-tying for the lace. This is the step that takes the longest and it's where the price difference is really made.
- Plucking and knot bleaching. By hand. A factory-plucked hairline thins the edge so it melts against your skin; bleached knots stop the lace from catching light.
- Strapping and finishing. Adjustable straps, combs, and a cap sized to 54–58 cm unless you ask for custom sizing.
- QC before it ships. We check the hairline, the parting, the density, and the cap construction strand by strand. If it fails, it goes back to the bench.
What we will tell you that other sellers won't
- Not all our hair is Chinese. A large share of the human hair used in the global wig industry is gathered in India and South America and processed through Chinese factories. We're part of that supply chain. What we control is the manufacturing and the QC, and we don't pretend otherwise.
- Glueless is not as secure as glued. It holds well on textured hair. On fine or very straight hair, you'll want a wig grip band. We'll say this on every product page rather than after you complain.
- Color shifts happen. Monitor and phone screens vary. We offer a swatch service before you commit to a full unit — ask us.
- Installed hair can't be returned. This is a hygiene rule and it's industry standard, not our policy. Unused, uninstalled hair is returnable for 30 days.
Where to go next
- Start with glueless wigs — the easiest first purchase
- Measure your cap size — get the fit right the first time
- 13x4 lace front wigs — our most requested style
- Read the guides — install, care and cap size, written by the people who make the wigs
Talk to us
We answer every message ourselves, Monday to Saturday, 9AM–5PM China time. If you're not sure which cap size or texture suits you, ask. We'd rather spend ten minutes on a message than have you return a wig.
