Why 13x4 Is the Size Most People Should Buy

A lace front wig has a strip of lace across the front of the cap — the part that sits against your forehead. The numbers tell you two things: how long that strip is (the first number, in inches) and how deep it goes from front to back (the second number). 13x4 means a 13-inch-wide lace front with 4 inches of parting depth.

That 4 inches of depth is the whole reason 13x4 has become the industry default. With it you can part your hair on the side, sweep it across, or do a middle part and still keep the lace hidden under your natural hairline. It covers roughly 80% of the styling people actually want to do — everything from a sleek middle part to a deep side sweep.

Yes. It's the size we recommend most often for a first purchase because it balances styling freedom with an install that still takes under 20 minutes. If you'd rather start with the absolute simplest install, look at our beginner friendly wigs.

Only if the lace is cut and the hairline is re-plucked to your desired shape, or if you use a full lace construction instead. On a standard 13x4, ponytails work from the back where the cap is wefted. Our full lace braided wigs part anywhere for that reason.

With regular washing and conditioning every 2–3 weeks, expect 12–18 months of good condition. Dense 210% units tend to hold up slightly longer because there's less tension on the hairline.
