What "HD Lace" Actually Means
HD lace is a thinner lace than the standard Swiss lace most wigs use. Standard lace is around 1.5mm thick and does need to be trimmed and sometimes tinted to blend. HD lace is roughly 0.8mm — thin enough that once it's pre-plucked and the knots are bleached, it genuinely disappears against the skin.
Two things have to happen for it to work, and this is where a lot of "HD lace" listings cut corners:
1. The knots must be bleached. A bleached knot dissolves into the lace so light doesn't catch on it. Unbleached knots on HD lace look like tiny dark dots — the opposite of invisible.
2. The hairline must be pre-plucked. A factory pluck thins the hairline so the transition from your skin to the wig is gradual. Without it, even HD lace has a hard edge.
Our HD lace wigs do both, by hand, in our own workshop.
When HD Lace Is Worth It
HD lace makes the most difference in these situations:
- Middle parts. With a side part you can hide the lace behind the hair. With a middle part, the lace is exposed and only a very thin lace looks convincing.
- Short styles, where the hairline is fully visible and any lace edge shows.
- Photography and video. Under a camera, standard lace reads as a line across the forehead. HD lace doesn't.
If you wear a side part and a longer style, a standard 13x4 lace front will look entirely natural and cost less. HD lace is an upgrade for specific situations, not a universal requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions
It's thinner and more realistic, which matters most for middle parts, short styles, and photography. For a side part on a longer wig, regular lace looks just as good and costs less. It's an upgrade for a specific job, not a blanket improvement.
Less than standard lace, but a small amount of tidying at the edges is normal. Ours arrive pre-plucked and pre-trimmed, so most people just blend the edges with a tiny bit of concealer or foundation that matches their skin tone.
HD lace is thinner and slightly more delicate, so it needs a little more care around the edges. If you wash it the way we recommend — soaking rather than scrubbing — it holds up just as well in practice.
Yes. HD lace is the lace type, not the install method. All of our 13x4 lace fronts can be worn glued or glueless.
