Most "Curly" Wigs Are Straight Hair Forced Into Curls

This is the single most common thing we get asked about, so it's worth being direct: a lot of curly wigs are made from straight hair that's been chemically curled. The curl pattern looks fine on a mannequin, then the first wash destroys it — the hair relaxes, goes frizzy, and the pattern falls out.

Our curly and kinky wigs are made from hair that was already curly or kinky at the donor level, then textured further to match the pattern you want. That's why the pattern survives washing, heat styling, and months of wear. It's also why they cost more — there's no shortcut around it.

Textures We Make

Texture Pattern Density Notes
Afro curly Loose, defined spirals 180% Our softest curly option
Afro kinky Coarse, tight coils 250% Built for 4C, maximum volume
Afro kinky (headband) Coarse, tight coils 250% Slip-on, no install
Jerry curl Bouncy, springy rings 180% / 210% Defined and long-lasting
Water wave Tight, rippled waves 180% / 210% Holds shape wash to wash
Deep wave Defined S-pattern waves 180% / 210% Softer than water wave
Body wave Loose, relaxed waves 180% / 210% Easy, low-maintenance

Density for Textured Hair

Density and texture work together differently than most people expect. On 4C hair, 250% density reads as natural full, not as excessive, because the hair's natural volume is already high — 250% is the density that matches a healthy 4C head. On 3C hair, 180% is usually the right match.

If you're ordering a texture that doesn't match your own, keep in mind that 250% is the safer choice: it reads fuller on 3C and natural on 4C.

Frequently Asked Questions

Because curl-safe hair is scarcer and takes longer to process. Straight hair can be curled chemically in a day; genuinely curly hair has to be sourced, graded, and textured to a specific pattern.

Yes, if you dry them properly. Our wash and care guide covers the diffusing routine that keeps the pattern defined. Never brush dry curls — that is what causes most of the frizz people blame on the wig.

250%. At 4C, 180% looks thin because your natural hair has more body than that. 250% is the density that actually matches. For 3C, 180% is usually the right number.

They're made for it. The density, the texture, and the cap construction are all designed around textured hair — including the pre-plucked hairlines, which are shaped to follow a natural 4C hairline rather than a straight one.
